Alliance Capital pledge continued schools golf sponsorship
2017 Alliance Capital Schools Golf Tournament
The investment and portfolio management company’s marketing manager Elizabeth Linkhunya made the commitment during the 2017 Alliance Capital Schools Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club.
She said they were satisfied with the level of competition and enthusiasm on the part of the young golfers.
“We are happy to be associated with the growth of golf at grass roots. This is a deliberate corporate social responsibility from Alliance Capital. We believe for continuity of the sport, it is important to nurture young talent. As Alliance Capital we thought of coming to develop the sport at grass roots,” she said.
Bambino Private School won this year’s tournament which attracted five schools from Blantyre and Lilongwe after registering 107 gross while runners-up Bishop Mackenzie International School had 157 gross.
Phoenix High School were third with a gross of 157. Despite finishing third, Phoenix produced a revelation in Matamando Kalima who was outstanding in the course.
Owner of Bambino Schools, Justin Mkandawire, who is also chairperson of Junior Golf Association of Malawi, expressed gratitude to Alliance Capital for promoting the game at junior level.
“Last year Alliance Capital also sponsored junior golf tournaments. For the game to grow we need support from the corporate world and we are appealing to more companies and organisations to emulate Alliance Capital so that the sport can be more competitive,” he said.
Mkandawire attributed his school team’s success to a sound strategic sports development plan.
Apart from private schools, there was also a select team from public schools.
